Event, design and code
Sumo Tournament
Event website for a fictional sumo tournament. Paris.
In short
Designing and developing a complete website for an imaginary sumo tournament in Paris. Not just a showcase: a real platform with ticketing and a back office to manage tournament data, wrestlers, bouts and bookings. The project where design truly meets code.
Training project. Design and production end to end. One week, in an intense sprint.
The subject
Sumo is a world of rare visual richness. Centuries of codes, rituals and symbols. The challenge was to translate this strong, highly codified culture into a contemporary web interface, without betraying it and without falling into cliché. Finding the point where respect for the universe meets the clarity of a modern interface.
What I did
The design
Sitemap, wireframes for the main pages, component design. This is the core of my work and where I was fully in charge.
The production
To bring the project to life, I handled the front-end integration (HTML, CSS) and the dynamic side (PHP, MySQL database), using AI as a code copilot. My role wasn't to write every line as an expert, but to steer the build: understanding the architecture, asking the right questions, integrating, testing, debugging until the site actually worked.
What was hard
Making the site actually work. Understanding why a page didn't render as expected, why a piece of data didn't come through, and fixing things until everything responded. It's a different kind of rigor from design, more binary. Either it works or it doesn't, and you have to understand why.
What I take away
The moment the site came to life, when the pages became dynamic and my mockups went from image to a working tool that responds.
Above all, this project taught me to produce with AI without letting it take over. Knowing what I want, phrasing it clearly, checking what comes back, correcting. It's a project-lead skill as much as a designer's: getting the right result by orchestrating the right tools, without needing to master everything yourself.
Designing means knowing what you want to achieve. Even when other tools do the executing.
